The Big Ten and Pac-12 are officially eliminated from the College Football Playoff
It's August 12.
Good afternoon, and welcome to my latest Rambling. As you can imagine, the past couple of weeks have been particularly difficult for me, a college football blogger. One week I lost my job, the next the Big Ten and Pac-12 (and others) are canceling football games left and right. And more could potentially be on the way. These are indeed troubling times, but I find writing is a reliable outlet for me. And hopefully reading what I have to say is some form of outlet for you.
I appreciate you giving me this space in your inbox and your day to get a few things off my chest. I don’t think I am one to offer wild hot takes like going out of my way to eliminate Nebraska from the Big Ten just for wanting to still play football this year (really, this is far down my list of issues to sort through), and I’m not one to suggest any conference is making a decision that could collapse the whole machine by not playing college football. Yes, there are some extremely bad effects to not playing football this fall, and it is not a decision that is taken lightly.
Speaking of writing as an outlet, I have a few posts you can check out that are live now!
This post with game-by-game predictions for Iowa on Athlon Sports went live yesterday. Yeah. Perfect timing, right? I love writing and contributing to Athlon Sports, and I will still be finding ways to stay involved, but I cannot help but laugh at how many of my Big Ten-related posts have made for fodder for Old Takes Exposed before the season started.
Over on The Comeback, I took a look at how much fun could be had if a handful of Big Ten teams decided to play football this fall even without the approval of the Big Ten. I think we could have some fun schedules if they did. I also recently stated you should not expect the College Football Playoff to expand this season.
And hey, speaking of the College Football Playoff, yes, play the whole dang thing if you can even without the Big Ten and Pac-12.
On the latest Locked On Nittany Lions…
there are some days when the timing is just perfect for me. Tuesday was one of those days. I typically record my episodes of Locked On Nittany Lions the day before they go live, but had to release the typical Wednesday episode early. That’s because I was able to come home from my day job, get the breaking alert on my phone about the Big Ten’s decision, and get right to recording a live reaction podcast.
With no Big Ten and Penn State football to look forward to this fall, you do not need to worry about this podcast. We have some ideas ready to continue moving forward with to keep the podcast alive even without football to discuss.
You can subscribe to the Locked On Nittany Lions podcast on the following podcast platforms:
Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | iHeart Radio | Overcast
Also, don’t forget to follow Locked On Nittany Lions on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitch.
I still don’t know what happened during this Urban Meyer interview
Former Ohio State head coach (and Florida, Utah, and Bowling Green) and current college football analyst for FOX Urban Meyer hopped on with Big Ten Network for live reaction to the Big Ten’s decision to put fall sports on the shelf. Understandably when breaking news like this happens, not every expert joining the live programming will be in the most ideal environment. But I’m still trying to figure out what exactly was happening with this random guy showing up in the middle of Meyer’s appearance on Big Ten Network.
If he could see what was happening, and the furious reaction from Meyer, then Dave Resvine is truly a pro’s pro.
That’s all for today!
I’ll have more later this week. In the meantime, don’t forget to make sure you are subscribed to this newsletter to get it delivered straight to your inbox, and feel free to forward to a friend, a friend who is going to miss college football as much as I will this fall.
